#reverb13: horizons

Encounters: What thing did you keep encountering this year over and over again?  Was it something you learned from, or was it just a strange coincidence?

When I looked back at some of the photos I took this year, I realized that one of the things I encountered most often and was constantly in awe of was the changing sky, horizons, the scenery of my travels.

I wanted to take notice of the world around me, remain open to its messages and beauty. These photographs remind me of 2013, the open road, all the places I traveled, the things I was able to do. I'm also reminded of how amazing my surroundings are, and the importance of being aware, living in the moment, recording a snapshot of time.

I encountered so many things, places, and people this year, but the way I feel about the sky, horizons and all they represent kept coming back to me, back to my heart.

#reverb13: photo in the moment

1000 Words:  There’s the old saying that a photo is worth 1,000 words.  Give us a photo with that impact that sums up some significant event of your 2013, or give us 1,000 words about a pivotal moment in 2013.

I could have chosen any number of photos from races I ran this year. I went back and forth for a while between the photo below and one of my father and I after the first 5K I completed. This photo is significant for 2013 in a few ways. It was taken at my niece's 1st birthday party which I decided to attend instead of going to a big conference in Vegas. It allowed me to have a much more laid back time, to save money, and to be part of an awesome celebration for Grace's birthday. I definitely think the adults had more fun in the bounce house than the kids. We took a lot of jumping photos of one another and I love every single one of them. In jumping, there is a sense of joy, elation, freedom, which is how I felt about my decision to be there, in the moment.
