words of my heart

One night a few months ago, I had this really strange occurence. I was sleeping, restlessly, probably. I'd been going through a tough emotional time and I heard this voice, a very clear voice resonate in the room and it said, "You will not sink." I woke with a start. I have no idea where the voice came from; M was sleeping next to me. Since then, I have repeated these words like a mantra, finding comfort in them. "You will not sink." And then I think, "I have so many anchors, so much to keep me afloat and I am thankful for all of the things in my life that do.

I was thinking about this when I read Katie's post at Cakes, Tea and Dreams. And I'm always inspired the way Lindsey talks about words. The following are phrases/words that sustain me, or inspire me, the ones that move in and out of my head/heart on a daily basis.

“We save the world by being alive ourselves.” ~Joseph Campbell

"Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” ~Henry James

“Hearts may break, but hearts are the toughest of muscles, able to pump for a lifetime, seventy times a minute, and scarcely falter along the way. Even dreams, the most delicate and intangible of things, can prove remarkably difficult to kill.” ~Neil Gaiman from Fragile Things

“Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." ~A.A. Milne Christopher Robin to Pooh

"I carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear carry your heart with me (i carry it inmy heart) i am never without it (anywherei go you go, my dear;)
~e.e. cummings

"Sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." ~Lewis Carroll

"Your life is your life. Don't let it be clubbed into submission. Be on the watch." ~Charles Bukowski

And then there are the song lyrics, which are way too many to mention.

What are yours?
