reverb10: appreciating the mistakes

December 14 – Appreciate What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it? (Author: Victoria Klein)

It's been a year of appreciation as I mentioned in my first reverb post (that first one seems to have really set the tone for all of these prompts so far). What I've come to appreciate most this year is my life, the chaos and the rhythm and the people that make it worthwhile. I've learned to appreciate all of the experiences in my life that make these moments, now, possible. I appreciate the sacrifices I made in the past; I embrace the decisions I made and all the wealth of mistakes from which I learned. I let myself off the hook for all the times I didn't quite measure up to my own or society or family or friends' expectations.

I express gratitude for the people in my life by telling them how important they are to me, and by showing them through small gestures like a phone call or a card or a ride to work that I want to spend time with them and I'm glad they're part of my life. I express gratitude for everything else through writing, and through daily meditations on gratefulness. It's all an important reminder that we have take our whole selves into consideration, embracing the things we may not understand or like about ourselves in order to truly appreciate who we are at any given moment.
