8 things you may not know about me

I tagged myself from Amy's blog because I'm being particularly narcissistic today. This is actually pretty difficult because I just revised the "about me" page of this blog and there is a lot of information there about me. Here goes:

1. I love scary movies, ghost stories, urban legends, etc. I know that I'm working through some psychological baggage as I appreciate gore, and slasher movies, but there's something about being scared that I love.

2. I used to despise roller coasters. On a trip to Six Flags with my brother, we were on one of the more terrifyingly high coasters. You know, the ones that go really slow as they ascend and then stop before the drop. I squeezed my brother's hand as we reached the top. He leaned over and said, "Open your eyes!" I did as we started the descent and I've loved them ever since.

3. I won the Pike County Spelling Bee in 2nd grade. My classmates made me a huge "Good Luck" poster that I kept until I graduated high school.

4. I took swimming and diving lessons at the Country Club to please my mother. When I was 8, I dove to the bottom of the pool to save a frog that was alredy dead. That moment became a metaphor for later relationships. When I was 11, I stayed in the lessons because a girl from the high school swim team told me I had great form. I used to watch her swim after our practices. I thought she was, without a doubt, the most beautiful person I'd ever seen. She would do laps and I would imagine being the water surrounding her. Looking back now, I realize that I'd always been attracted to girls but I had no language to describe what I felt.

5. I was robbed at gunpoint in college while working at a hotel. The one thing that kept running through my mind: "I wonder how badly it will hurt if he shoots me."

6. The first record I bought with my own money was a 45: Madonna's "Borderline" single. The first cassette tape I bought was Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer."

7. The Awakening, along with many of Kate Chopin's stories helped to shift my life in new directions. They came along at the exact moment I was in the midst of my own discoveries about who I was and who I never wanted to be.

8. I love candy, sugar infused, teeth rotting, sweet and sour candy.
