first snow

Here is a poem I wrote about the first snow of the season. I wrote this not long after I first met Michelle four years ago. If you click on the play icon you can hear me read it.

first snow
by devon fitzgerald

like flurried kisses,

fall apart in her breath

out
I slip through the cold,
slide

across teeth

like ice

and her hair shines

in this weather,
she

has everything to do with blatant dis tract
ion, is it allright?

to split words like
a toms,
exposing nuclei
to the pounding

of bootprints in whiteness,

simple connotations with
purity, unnerve

my counting fingers

and I'm through with it
for one a.m., (thump thump thump)

my heart.
