prairie home companion

In typical Fitzgerald fashion, I got tickets to the play for Tuesday instead of tonight which worked out okay since my parents aren't leaving until Wednesday. But that left tonight free. When Dad heard that Prairie Home Companion was playing he wanted to go. Oren said that my dad sounded like someone who would listen to PHC. (Look at me using the lingo.) I knew, in general, what the film was about but not how it would play on film. I have to admit I really enjoyed it. Some of my favorite moments are lines like the following from Garrison Keillor talking about Midwesterners: "We're not a beach people. We are a dark people who believe it could be worse, and are waiting for it. We come from people who brought us up to believe that life is a struggle, and if you should feel really happy, be patient: this will pass."

I find that quite accurate from my experience with living here.

More of my favorite lines:
Stage Manager: "About that obscene song you sang last week..."
Lefty(played by Woody Harrelson): "I'll give you my moonshine if you show me your jugs?"

"This isn't really going to be your last show, is it?"
Garrison Keillor: "Every show is your last show. That's my philosophy."
Rhonda Johnson (Lily Tomlin): "Thank you, Plato."

And you can get t-shirts now with that line on them.
